In the course of my business I often come across people who are reluctant to put much resource or effort into the digital aspects of their marketing.
This attitude is particularly prevalent amongst small businesses that have been around for a number of years with an established customer base mainly consisting of other businesses.
What these people don’t grasp is the fact that things are changing at a pace that, a few years ago, no one would have dreamt of. And they are about to hit a watershed that will either force many of these businesses kicking and screaming into the digital age or put them out of business for good.
People who were borne in the late 70’s or early 80’s, or Generation Y as they are sometime referred to, are now at the age where more and more of them own businesses. Generation Y people have grown up with computers. Using digital technology is second nature to them and they expect to use it for business.
As more and more businesses start to be owned by Generation Y people, businesses that have not adopted up to date digital technology for all aspects of their businesses will wake up one day soon and find that they are dinosaurs.
And we all know what happened to dinosaurs.
