The Rise and Fall of Sega

Feb 24, 2012 | All

For those of you who’s hark back to the glory days of Sega and Sonic the Hedgehog here’s an article, which I recently contributed to, charting the rise and subsequent fall of that company.

As a rider I would add that I believe the success of Sega in the early 90’s was largely down to its excellent developers, especially in Japan, and their almost fanatical attention to detail.

Speaking for Sega in Europe I believe success was also down to some highly innovative and creative marketing which positioned Sega as a cool company with attitude, pushing the against the mainstream boundaries.

Don’t forget thought that whilst Sega is on longer in the consumer hardware business it is still going strong in the arcade/amusement sector.
